E-safety

Becta's latest publication on ICT safety related issues can be downloaded or ordered from the publications section of their site. It provides comprehensive guidance, looking beyond what happens in the school environment to the implications of the growth in use of phones and PDAs and internet use outside schools.

The report emphasises that the technological solutions we have come to rely on such as filtering are just one component in creating a safe ICT enviironment and highlights the need for all school staff to be aware of their professional responsibilty for pupil safety in this area. There are also very comprehensive sections on the legislative and child protection perspectives and guidance on securing and preserving evidence.

Another very useful publication in this context is Signposts to Safety which
provides practical suggestions and resources for incorporating teaching on
safe use of ICT at KS3 and 4.
